An Unexpected Path In My Life

My Report Card for Fall 2012

As I mentioned in the last post I took a new turn in my life. It was by pure accident that it happened. I enrolled into school here in Americus. I am studying Marketing Management and if all goes well I will walk across the stage in the summer of 2014 with a two year degree.

I am sure some are wondering how this happened. Others might wonder how marketing management ties into writing. Of course there are those who are wondering what kind of plan I have in motion. Then there are those who just do not care one way or another.

How did I end up in a Technical College? I was actually looking into going to an online school for writing. I was even accepted but at the last minute I turned it down. I had a bad feeling about it. For once I went with my gut. I am glad on that end I did.

I had made my mind up to go find a job. The problem was that I could not find a job with my very limited education. I was down on myself. Everyday I was mentally beating myself up.

I went with Jose when he went to register for school. I longed to be there. I wanted to learn. While Jose registered I went and spoke to the woman in front about what I needed to do to enroll. I figured that I could do all the leg work needed and be ready by spring term.

One of the hurdles for me is the fact that I needed my transcripts from when I took my GED back in 1995. Those things cost money and that seemed to always be lacking. That’s when I found out that I could get a free copy within twenty-four hours just around the corner from the school as long as I had taken my GED in Georgia, which I had.

Then in a blink of an eye things started rolling. We got my transcripts and then Jose surprised me by taking his last twenty dollars to pay my exam fees. Since then I have been on a run away train.

I has not been sunshine and roses the whole time. There have been hurdles. I had to take learning support for Math (A hard subject for me) but I tested out of that. I also seem to suffer from testing issues but it is something I can work on.

How did I do for my first term? I made four A’s and a B. That gave me a GPA of 3.75! Not too shabby for someone who hasn’t been in school since 1995. Plus I am a member of the Student Leadership Council and an officer of PBL. I also think I will be able to join the Honor Society when we go back to school in January. I am thriving. I am also able to set down a solid life plan that actually has a chance of becoming a reality. Yes writing sits at the base of it all.

You all should be warned I will be writing about school in the upcoming posts. I have had a lot of experience that I want to share with the world. Like everything in life this is an adventure that I am taking on with a 110%. I hope you decide to join me on this leg of the journey and I thank you all in advance for your support.
